Filming in the Studio

I am collaborating with Chocolate Films to create a short documentary as part of the 1000 Londoners project.  This exciting program creates a unique digital portrait of our city.  It offers an insight into the lives of 1000 people who consider themselves to be Londoners, taking in all ages, religions, race, income, interests and opinions.  Each week, a profile of a Londoner is posted on the home page.  The profile contains a 3 minute film that gives an insight into the life of the Londoner, as well as their own personal photos of London and some answers to crucial questions about their views on London life.

During the filming we focused on my work inspired by New Covent Garden Flower Market.  Two cameras were set up in my studio to take photographs every 10 seconds of the development of an artwork over four days.  I drew delphinium purchased from the Flower Market.  These out of season delicate summer flowers caught my eye.  I took a rubbing of a water sprinkler sign to incorporate into the artwork.  I have never been filmed or photographed while drawing.  At first I felt a little self conscious but I soon forgot the clicking sound from the cameras.  This has opened my eyes to the possibility of how I could document the journey of future artworks.

The film created by Chocolate Films for 1000 Londoners is due to be released in early 2017.
