SPACE/LCN Showcase

SPACE, Mare Street, 19-21 January 2017 An exhibition including new works, works in progress, prototypes or experiments created by the first round of LCN participants.  I exhibited two hand finished limited edition lithograph prints.  I am so pleased to have completed my first series of prints and view this as an ongoing project.  It has been fantastic to have mentoring, attend workshops and widen my network.  The show was an energetic inspiring collection of works. Filming in the Studio

I am collaborating with Chocolate Films to create a short documentary as part of the 1000 Londoners project.  This exciting program creates a unique digital portrait of our city.  It offers an insight into the lives of 1000 people who consider themselves to be Londoners, taking in all ages, religions, race, income, interests and opinions.  Each week, a profile of a Londoner is posted on the home page.  The profile contains a 3 minute film that gives an insight into the life of the Londoner, as well as their own personal photos of London and some answers to crucial questions …

Exploring Lithography

As part of my collaboration with London Creative Network I am creating a series of original prints.  The quality of line created using Lithography printing caught my eye in Paris when viewing prints created by Toulouse-Lautrec.  The rich, velvet, tonal lines that are communicated in each print intrigued me.  It was wonderful to draw upon stone and create a print lithography.  The process is based on the principle that oil and water do not mix.  Special drawing materials with high grease content, similar to materials used for drawing are applied onto a surface which is then chemically altered so that …

Exhibition: Inspired by the Flower Market

I have just delivered artworks to the framers to be ready for Artist Open House – one month today.  I have chosen box frames and opted for pins to hold the paper in place rather than glue.  I like the honesty of seeing how something is put together.  I am exhibiting artworks inspired by New Covent Garden Flower Market during the first two weekend of October – all very welcome. Dates: 1-2 & 8-9 October, 11am – 6pm Venue: Zinc White, Arch 8, Railway Arches, 150 Putney Bridge Road SW15 2NG

Work in progress

Sharing some studio shots of artwork inspired by New Covent Garden Flower Market.  For more information about this project have a look at my earlier blog post: Transplanting the Flower Market.   I shall be exhibiting the finished works during October 2016 as part of  Putney Artists Open House

Membership SGFA

I delivered my portfolio on Saturday to Conway Hall for consideration.  I spent the four hours prior to collection of my portfolio exploring the Print Room in The British Museum and trying Japanese savoury pancakes at Abeno Restaurant (really delicious).  On my return to Conway Hall I was delighted to be invited to become an an associate member of the Society of Graphic Fine Art – The Drawing Society. I look forward to showing artwork with the society at Draw 16, 95th Annual Open Exhibition 3-15 October 2016 held in the Menier gallery, Southwark Street, London – more details to …

Green, red and brown

I am about to start packing up my studio.  My fellowship at Ballinglen Arts Foundation has come to an end and I am taking stock.  I have spent a great deal of time looking at seaweed and rocks.  Having never lived by the coast,  I really enjoyed exploring these resilient  plants at low tide.  In the studio I experimented rather than producing finished work.  I am leaving with lots of ideas, creative energy and excited to begin my next project.  I am sure seaweed will make an appearance in my work soon.  Another artist mentioned that fellowships give you the …

Filming and flowers

I am collaborating with film maker Sam Weston to create an artist video.  We have filmed in my studio and at New Covent Garden.  I look forward to sharing it with you soon. Film Maker Sam Weston

Autumn Colour

I have been thinking about the amount of colour I use in my work after seeing the vivid autumn shades in the beautiful Westonbirt Arboretum.  These eye-catching brightly coloured trees could be seen from far away.  I have always preferred tonal drawings and previously have opted for a muted colour palette.  I liked the contrast between the dark branches and the brightly coloured leaves.  I would like to explore using these colour pallets in future artwork.
